Moving forward with the Sony F3 camera....

The holy grail of digital cinema is to make video look like film. A few special cameras over the years have been developed to film at 24fps (like film) instead of 30fps (like video and TV.)

A few others have recently been developed to have a super 35mm sensor (like 35mm film). This gives the images the depth of field and field of view characteristics of super 35mm film. There were a few ways to do it before, but they were awkward, reduced resolution and introduced noise.

Now a few, a very select few, cameras have all the best characteristics. Green Sign Media will soon be shooting on the hot new Sony PMW-F3. Camera-philes are calling it a baby Alexa. Not a bad comparison since an Alexa is around $80,000.

The images from the new Sony F3 look spectacular. Better roll off of the highlights, stupendous low light handling (this camera sees better than the human eye), it handles almost any lens, and has a noise level so low many cameras costing $100,000 more have twice as much noise. Just spectacular!
